Learning Through Photography

The Black Photographers Collective, a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization has developed a curriculum entitled, “Learning Through Photography,” which is an 8-week introduction to photography program for kids from 12 to 17 years of age and is available to communities at large.

As we exercise awareness, we can easily agree that proper nourishment, information, and education are fundamental for individual development, progress, and social advancement. What should be taken into consideration, is the importance art plays in proper brain development which improves an individual’s creativity, critical thinking, and communication skills. Therefore, the inclusion of photography as an art form allows individuals, better behavioral skills within a positive decision-making process resulting in greater achievement outcomes for society.

In conclusion, this proposal for community improvement will provide positive dynamics, improved individual and collective self-esteem: confidence, teamwork, collaboration, creativity, intelligence, pride, and other unimaginable aspects, as well as help reduce crime because community members engaging and participating in these powerful and positive activities, will realize higher values of behavior within themselves.

It has been said, “The purpose of a quality education is to open up one’s mind to the possibility of endless possibilities!”
